S5731, Charles Hellis & Sons Ltd., 121-3 Edgware Rd, London, England: A 12 Bore Original 3" Magnum Boxlock Ejector Made in 1954 with 30" Ejector Dovetail Lump barrels at .731 .032 & .032 (Full & Full), Original 3" chambers, Original Birmingham nitro proof at 1 1/2 ounce and then proved again in Birmingham in 1989 at 4 Tons per square inch with the proper re-proof marks, Double triggers, Splinter forend with an Anson release, Straight hand stock at 15 3/16 x 1 1/2 x 2 1/8" over a 1 1/4" leather pad, Slight cast-off for the right hand, Proper 3" weight at 8 lbs. 2 oz., Border engraved, Retains 80% original case colors, The barrels reblacked in England & now at 99%, The stock reoiled and now at 97%, The checkering remaining at 99%, The bores are excellent plus and these barrels are almost like new inside & out. The barrels ring with a nice chime, it is tight on the face with excellent bite remaining. This is a doggone nice gun that hasn't been used a great deal and I am sure it doesn't recognize the sound of a duck call. The Hellis firm started in 1894 at 21 Shrewsbury Road in London. Charles Hellis died in 1905 and his oldest son died in 1932. They moved to 121 Edgware, the address of this gun, in 1936 and was acquired by Henry Atkin in 1956 and later incorporated with Beesley. By 1986 the firm was known as Hellis, Beesley and Watson. To this day they offer Spring Opening SxS game guns and Spring Opening over & under shotguns. They can be contacted thru hellis
