LG27339 Remington .300 Win Mag model 700 Special Purpose SPS DBM 26 inch Matte Blue & Inlaid Black Synthetic Detachable Box Magazine 300 Winchester Magnum M24 Caliber What our bean field deer hunters knew 50 years ago has just now dawned on our military brass. The .300 Winchester Magnum caliber is optimal for distance, payload foot-pounds, and manageable felt recoil. Where the venerable .30-06 and .308 calibers are, our old heads say, 250 yard guns, the Win Mag is a 400 yarder. The Army’s new M24, of course, is a heavy barrel model 700P type; where this rifle is a standard 26 inch barrel. Even with a hot barrel, about all that happens is bullets flying higher elevation-wise, an asset in some respects. Anything a 700 SPS-V will do on the first shot, this variant will do, too. Photo shows one of only a handful of 700 Special Purpose Rifles with detachable, quickly replaceable, 3 shot magazines. Manufacturer, of course, is Remington Arms of Ilion New York. Construction is entirely steel barrel, action, bolt, and magazine with stippled gray rubber inlays in a graphite based black synthetic stock. Metal finish, apart from the bolt body, is matte blue weather resistant special purpose. Barrel is recess crowned 26 inch, .670 diameter at the muzzle and .750 at the forend, 1:10 right hand twist. Chambering is .300 Winchester Magnum caliber, 3+1 capacity with the detachable box magazine. Weight empty is 7.65 pounds unscoped, with center of gravity at the chamber. Receiver is drilled and tapped for Weaver 35 and 36 bases, or for 700RHSA One Piece JR Redfield type bases. Leupold one piece base numbers are 50003 or 50004. Trigger is .325 smooth faced ribbed steel Remington X-Mark, externally adjustable. It is pre-set on 3 1/2 pounds, easily movable 2 pounds up or down. Stock has pressure point barrel contact only at the end of the forend area, from there clear back to the chamber sweep, paper will slide. Buttstock length of pull measures 13 1/8 inches from the trigger face to the end of the 3/4 inch factory Super Cell recoil pad; and 700 SPS stocks are known for their pliability and recoil absorbing qualities. Replacement pricing on most any 700 SPS in our area exceeds $700.
