Description:
Both sides of the action carry the inscription, "A. Francotte Maker & Patentee - London". Barrels marked "Von Lengerke & Detmold, U.S. Agents New York" indicate this shotgun was imported prior to the acquistion of VL&D by Abercrombie & Fitch in 1929. Additional research by Griffin & Howe's Historian, Bob Beach, suggest that this serial number (20599) was manufactured prior to 1894 as S/N's 204xx, 206xx and 208xx are listed in a VL&D advertisement published in that year. The barrel flats carry the original "Crown over AF in oval" makers mark of Auguste Francotte as well as "Siemens-Martin Steel" stamp, Americanized "Not for Ball" designation, choke markings and proof markings.
