#53837, Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf a/n: A Totally Original Commercial Mauser Sporter Type B in 30-06 Made with Extra Features in 1912 That Remains in Excellent Condition, 24” half round half octagon tapered barrel, Full length rib, Tangent rear sight adjustable from 50 to 1000 meters, The neat Lyman No. 35 quick adjustable peep sight with a locking lever plus windage adjustment mounted on the bolt stop release, Barrel mounted forward sling swivel, Full Matted rib, Correct pear shaped bolt handle, Double set triggers, Hinged floorplate with a center bow release, "Germany" engraved on the floorplate (Pre-WWI marking-Most likely an export piece), The receiver ring and bridge were never drilled or tapped, Traditional half-stock style stock, Schnabel horn forend tip, Cheekpiece, Horn grip cap, Wrap around point pattern checkering on the grip & forend, Every serial number everywhere matches including the stock, The internal inletting remains in excellent condition, 14 3/16" LOP over the intertwined "WFM" horn buttplate, 7 Lbs. 7 Oz., This piece is absolute Pre-WWI correct with "Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf A-G Oberndorf A/N - 1912" on the receiver ring & "Waffenfabrik Mauser A.-G. Oberndorf a m Neckar." on the rib of the barrel, The original blue remains at 88-90%, The original stock finish at 88-90%, The checkering is at 97%, The bore looks like it did 101 years ago when it left the banks of the Neckar River. This very piece is in excellent original condition. This is one neat Pre-WWI Type B with a 1/2 round & octagon barrel, double set triggers and a neat Lyman #35 peep sight. This piece most likely was exported from Mauser and a good chance it went to H. Tauscher on 320 Broadway in New York City. This gun is #53837, #53842 was a 30-06 as well that was imported by Tauscher. This piece has lived a good life for 102 years. ////////////////////////// This rifle was made when Paul von Mauser was still alive; he passed away May 29, 1913 and left an everlasting legacy with the Gewehr 98 system bolt action magazine rifle. No one has beaten him since and most likely no one ever will.
