Purdey 16 Bore sn16276 sn16277 - PAIR, EXTRA, CASED, FACTORY DOCUMENTED, RARE!!!!

REDUCED PRICE!!!

Purdey s x s shotguns are considered to be the finest vintage doubles ever produced. With the Beesley self-opening action, meticulous hand fitting of metal and wood, the Purdey is the zenith of the London gun trade. Here we have a TRUE PAIR OF 16b BUILT IN 1898! FULLY DOCUMENTED BY PURDEY OF LONDON WITH A FACTORY LETTER. This set, serial numbers16276 & 16277, originally was part of a trio with single triggers no less! The gun has been updated, having double triggers and new stocks installed in 1926, and new nitro steel barrels in 1977, ALL DONE BY PURDEYS OF LONDON! If you have ever enquired of Purdey for the cost of building a matched pair in today's market you know cost would exceed $225,000. I was informed by Purdey that less than 8% of their guns were produced in 16b and a small handful ever in pairs or trios. What a fine set of antique double shotguns for your shooting needs and investment opportunity. Being offered at a very attractive price and still in remarkable condition, they match the Purdey records to a "T".

I have never seen such a perfectly matched set of barrels in all of my years of measuring up barrels on the finest shotguns in the world!

The actions retain 60% factory case colors, perfect screws, clear, sharp Purdey rose and scroll engraving, cocking indicators, crisp double triggers both at 3lbs. front, 4lbs. rear, trigger guard retains 98% niter blue, action tight with lever centered, strong well timed ejectors. all in perfect mechanical condition. The breech balls are carved with deep relief leaves and vines MUCH LIKE A PURDY "EXTRA" WOULD BE DONE TODAY! And again, all a perfect match to each other.

The stocks are in excellent condition, straight hand grip with nice figure and hand rubbed oil finish, perfect wood to metal fit and superb checkering, crisp drop points, checkered butts, no cracks or repairs, 14 15/16" LOP, 2 1/4" drop at heel, 1 3/8" drop at comb, 3/8" cast off (can be bent to your specs within 10 days of purchase for around $400 for the pair), wonderfully figured European walnut with just a few very light handling marks. Again, all a perfect match.

Housed in their fitted motor case, these rare and stunning guns weigh in at 6lbs. 1 1/2oz. and both balance precisely the same 3/8" ahead of the hinge pin. These guns qualify as antiques, receivers being made in 1898, and as such can be shipped directly to any address in the U.S. that you specify. These guns are perfect for American style upland hunting and sporting clays, as well as driven shoots and will command attention from even the most astute collector/shooter anywhere in the world.
