Description:
This is an artillery-sized horn which measures 21 3/4” in length with a base that's 4 1/2” in diameter. The horn has carved geometric designs at and below the spout with folksy Union Jack roundels on either side of a panel with the date “1907” about 2/3 of the way towards the base which is clad in a darkly tarnished sheet silver cap with scalloped and beaded edge. The horn has toning that ranges from dark brown streaked with gray at the spout to an ochre-tan as it lightens towards the base and there are small spots of insect damage scattered about the surface and on one end of the base. There is no provision for mounting a strap or lanyard and there is no plug but, given the year commemorated, it was probably never intended for actual use but rather as a decorative accent – something for which it is admirably suited!
