N. MINT HENRY DERINGER U.S. MODEL 1817 FLINTLOCK RIFLE DATED 1841 FROM THE F.W. ROEBLING III COLLECTION. Probably the finest example of this rare Deringer produced last U.S. 1817 Rifle contract production of which was destined for service in Indian Territory at Fort Smith and Fort Gibson by the U.S. Army Rifle Regiments. Brilliant with 95% of the original plum brown on the barrel and original blue on the bands and patchbox. Has all the case hardening colors on the lock. 36” deeply rifled barrel with breech stamped “US/JCB/P” and dated 1841. Lock also dated 1841 and stamped “U.S./DERINGER/PHILA.”. “U.S.” stamped on butt plate tang. Excellent walnut stock with all the arsenal oil finish. Letter “W” in script etched on left side of butt and a minor age check at the wrist. Perfect working order and a brilliant bore. The Roebling collection was formed over two generations by descendants of F.W. Roebling who built the Brooklyn Bridge. Many of the arms in the collection came from the Trenton-Philadelphia area. It is therefore possible that this exceptional rifle may have come from a source close to the Deringer family. Still retains the original Roebling collection tag.
