Apache Wars era scarce holster designed by Captain James Ropes of the 8th U. S. Cavalry to accommodate use of the holster on the .45-70 cal. Mills Model 1881 woven cartridge belt. Very few of these holsters survive and those that do show lots of use. This one is from an old U.S. Martial Arms collection started before WWII and has not been on the market in modern times. All original except period of use repairs on the flap and belt loop. Retaining loop and the tab are original. Untouched as found condition.
