Description:
Joslyn Carbine Model 1864 .52 RF (Bore Diameter .540) 22" Barrel, 3 Lands and Grooves Condition: Antique Fine. All Original. Wood Excellent, with easily read Cartouches. Forend shows some damage to top edge, about two inches behind barrel band. Traces of case color to action sideplate. Entire gun shows an even patina. Some Freckling to barrel, from muzzle, to 6 inches back. Bore bright, without pitting, rifling sharp. Slight peening of rim, where someone actually dry fired it. And lastly, maybe someone can help me with this..... The bore is .540" , but most list the caliber of this gun at .52 Rimfire. In what research I have had time for, the .56-52 Spencer, and the .54 Joslyn rimfire cartridges are listed as both suitable. But the .56-52 Spencer used a .512" bullet, so it seems to me more likely that the .56-56 Spencer, with its' .546" bullet would be more suitable. Maybe someone could educate me.... In any case, you won't find a better specimen of a 150 year old Civil War Carbine than this.
