About this new Model 70 action: In Bolt Action Rifles, Expanded 4th Edition, on Page 564, Frank de Haas states: “As much as us old-timers revere the pre-‘64 model, it must be said that the Classic is an updated and improved rifle with changes that actually make it a better gun.” On Page 565, the author supports this by explaining that the Classic retains all the great features of the pre-’64 model with the addition of the one improvement that came later, the anti-bind bolt feature which consists of a groove cut into the lower edge of the right locking lug, and a ridge machined on the upper edge of the right receiver wall. Mark Cromwell of NECG must have agreed with the late Mr. de Haas when Mark chose this action for this rifle. The great rifle maker, Sterling Davenport, also built many of his last rifles on this Model 70 Classic action. Inscription: “New England Custom Guns” inscribed on the underside of the barrel just forward of the forearm tip. Condition: This gun has never gone hunting, 99% blue, 99.5% wood finish, 100% checkering, the bore looks new, it totally has the appearance of never being hunted.
