Description:
Serial #397, .380 Webley, 4? barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome revolver (one of only 808 ever made between 1893-1894) that has matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, and barrel and retains 60-70% of the original bright blue finish that has flaked to both pewter gray and plum-brown underlying metal on the balance. Additionally, there is a single small area of pinprick pitting on the left side of the barrel about halfway down. The trigger and ejector latch assembly retain their original bright factory polish while the barrel-latch and flat-faced hammer (these revolvers use a separate, frame mounted, rebounding firing pin) have a mixed blue and gray patina/ the checkered hard rubber bird's head grips are in fine condition with only a very small amount of slight wear and some barely noticeable flattening of the points. The lock-up is still tight and the action functions flawlessly. The revolver is housed in a non-original but period oaken traveling case with an old replacement blue baize lining and six compartment interior along with a cartridge block for 30 rounds of ammunition. Also included are a wire bore brush, turn-screw, and the lock key. The case is in very nice shape and compliments the revolver nicely. This is a seldom seen small frame Webley in very good-fine condition with some nice extras and would make a great addition to any collection. {Ref. ?Webley Revolvers? by Gordon Bruce and Christian Reinhart; 1988} Antique
