Description:
S# 132570, .44 WCF (.44-40) , 24 inch octagon barrel, bright, very good bore. This 1883 mfg. rifle was special ordered with seven features: 1. octagon barrel 2. set trigger 3. checkered pistol grip stock 4. half magazine 5. casehardened frame 6. sling swivels 7. graduated peep (now missing) and Beech front (now replaced) sight. Receiver side-plates and hammer retain 70% fading colors with light staining. Barrel shows 70% blue with scattered oxidation stains, small dings and scratches. Front sight is a fire blued period replacement, Rear sight is correct early '73 with checkered sides and flat stepped elevator. The sound wood has fancy grain with worn checkering showing marks from use and perhaps a little oil wiped on long ago. We have not removed the stock to see if tang shows typical X's due to fragility of this flame grain wood. The pistol grip shows the early style fancy ebony inlay and proudly sports six notches on right side. The correct factory installed sling swivels are present, front fading to grey, rear fading to brown. The long tang trapdoor buttplate is also grey with brown staining. This beautiful 1873 has plenty of condition left to make it very desirable while still very serviceable. Cody Museum letter detailing all these features is included. A less than common 1873 Deluxe for the Winchester collector and a handsome example of Winchester craftsmanship. Antique
