By letter dated July 29, 1942, 20,000 Colt Official Police .38 caliber special revolvers were ordered. By November of that same year, the first shipments were being made of the newly created "Colt Commando" Approximately 50,000 Commandos were produced between 1942 and 1945. Barrel lengths included 2" and 4". Post war report summaries indicated that the model was substantially the colt official police with a war- time dull finish, checkering was omitted and the walnut grips were replaced by less expensive plastic.Thanks for looking
