Description:
Serial #20169, .455 Webley, 7 1/2" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome revolver that retains 98% plus of the original bright, lustrous blue finish with just some very mild silvering along the raised edges and projections as well as a few scattered spots of mild freckling and some fading at the muzzle. The topstrap has the standard Webley "'WG' TARGET MODEL" marking with the Webley & Scott "winged bullet" and "ENGLAND" stamp on the left side of the frame. The hammer, trigger, and cylinder retention stirrup have some traces of mild freckling on the bright metal while the thumb lever has about 95% of the original blue remaining. The numbers on the frame and barrel are matching but the cylinder is numbered "171" (only 2 away so it may have left the factory this way; finish and general condition of the cylinder is identical to the rest of the gun). The checkered walnut grips are in fine condition with some flat spots in the checkering on the right side along with a shallow impact mark in both the wood and the metal at the knuckle. The lock-up is still solid and tight and the action functions flawlessly. The revolver is housed in an English oak traveling case with six compartment interior and mostly original dark blue baize lining with a period glass oiler, turn-screw, cleaning rod, and key. There is an original yellowed Army and Navy Cooperative Society retailer's label inside the lid and the 30 round cartridge block and underlying baize are fairly modern replacements. The case has two nicely filled holes on either side of the key hole probably for the carry handle. This is fantastic example of a highly desirable WG Target Model with case with an unusually high amount of the original finish remaining. It is a stellar revolver and would make a welcome addition to any collection of fine British firearms. {Ref. "Webley Revolvers" by Bruce & Reinhart; 1988}. FFL or C&R
