Standard double-set triggers, standard open sporting rear buckhorn and pinched blade front sights, crescent buttplate, with wooden wiping rod under the barrel. Manufactured between 1876 and 1891, this long range rifle is serial numbered 79XX, very early for a No.5 Pacific, and thus this rifle was likely made in 1878-79 during the height of the buffalo hunting era. The exterior has a mottled grey-brown stained patina mixed with some crusty hard surface rust and grime and a few spots of light blotchy pitting. Markings are decent and the wood is very good. These “Pacific Ballards” were quite popular in their day and no doubt took their fair share of buffalo in the Great Plains hunts in the late 1870s …and then as good target rifles up to the 1890s. About VG as described. $2195. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
