This sniper started life as probably one of the finest condition WW1 German GEW 98 rifles extant.  No import marks. Roller Coaster rear sight. All the original factory blue finish.  Mint in the white receiver. Fire blue on Mauser bolt release.  Incredible as new stock. Serial number 5662 on barrel and action. Bolt factory renumbered 7576.  24 stamped on front band. 06 stamped on safety.  1082 stamped on floor plate. Several Imperial German stamps on stock and metal.  Mint bore and action.  Beautiful Gerard WW1 sniper scope with reproduction Mauser high turret mounts.  Caliber is 8mm.  Another rifle from the same collection of a gun simply unheard of in private hands.  Original sling?   Incredible sniper rifle used by German army in the trenches during the Great War.   C&R  (Maker and date under mount, do not want to remove)
