Mint Original Remington U.S. Model 1916 Mosin Nagant 1891 Military 7.62x54R Rifle. Serial number “5417XX” and ALL matching. Top of receiver stamped “Remington Armory 1917” under double eagle and “II” for Nicholas II for whom the contract was meant but subsequently never got paid for or delivered due to the revolution. Some 479,000 or so rifles had been delivered(not paid for) before the next shipment(remaining 280,000 in country) were purchased by the U.S. Army from Remington(they needed the money) and designated the Model 1916 and intended for training purposes. These unissued ones are among the rarest of U.S. longarms to come across in mint condition like this one. Could be a DCM gun or taken out of service before it had a chance to go anywhere. The original blue is evident everywhere as well a mint bore. Wood excellent with U.S. acceptance screaming eagle over flaming bomb/US. Stock has original finish with very few storage checks or signs of use. Absolutely mint example that cannot be matched.
