AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR GERMAN HUSSAR SABER CIRCA 1765-1785. 41 ½” o/a with 36” blade of 1 ½” width. Iron hilt with double langets. Blade decorated with martial motifs as well as a hussar on horse with raised saber. Identical sword pictured on page 162 of George C. Neumann’s SWORDS AND BLADES OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, figure 303.S. Hilt of near identical pattern to several British Cavalry swords of the same Revolutionary War period. 100% original in very good condition with some moderate to heavy pitting on the front section of the blade. Engraved motifs very sharp and clear. Original leather grip wrap. Very scarce saber of the type carried by German mercenaries in the employ of George III.
