Very neat gun. 30"" octagon barrel with a ramrod underneath, with a double key forearm and pewter tip. Barrel is marked G.A. Nordheim Yreka. Action has been outfitted with a double set trigger. Butt stock has period repair on the top of the stock where it meets the frame. Gun shows much use, but no abuse. G.A. Nordheim was a gunsmith in the Yreka area during the 1880's. This gun is similar to the one owned by William Wright who was involved in the killing of Reelfoot, a legendary Grizzly bear in the Siskiyou mountains. He was apparently the last or one of the last California Grizzly Bears who was notorious for killing livestock. Over a 20 year period, it was estimated he killed over 500 cows. Accompanying this gun is an article detailing the story of the killing of Reelfoot written by the nephew of William Wright. He describes a gun very similar to this gun and there is also a picture of William Wright holding a gun that looks almost exactly like this Spencer. Very neat historical Spencer that was converted to a sporting rifle. SOLD |
