VOLS. & IDENTIFIED CALIFORNIA ARTILLERY HISTORY. Serial number 96752. .30-40 caliber and all original and correct with the original Model 1896 stock, handguard and Model 1896 rear sight. Springfield records indicate this rifle was shipped from the Armory to the 6th Mass. Vol. Infantry in 1899. Interestingly a small brass circular inventory tag bearing the number “6” is tacked behind the trigger guard. Very good to fine overall with 70% plus blue mixed with even patina. Working order and very good bore. With original U.S. Springfield Krag sling inscribed in old ink on the inside “F.J. HEFFERNAN-NO. 72 BATTERY A-CAL. VOLS”. Extra nice with a double history that should provide interesting research results. SOLD Antique: Yes |
