Description:
This is a Peabody Carbine and is 50 caliber rimfire. It has excellent mechanical function and an excellent bore. The stock cartouche WC is crisp on the left wrist behind the saddle ring and stud. It retains 88% blue and Case colors. The wood is very fine condition and all markings are sharp and crisp. At the end of the Civil War the U.S. Government canceled all contracts so the balance of the rifles and carbines were sold to foreign governments and State Militias. South Carolina purchased 350 in 50 rimfire and but not have a S.C. die stamp till 1881. This is an exceptionally nice Peabody Civil War Model Carbine that may have gone to the S.C. State Militia.
