Description:
This is Colt 1862 Police 36 caliber percussion Navy that is all matching serial numbers including the wedge. It is serial number 23950 and was made in 1863. The mechanical function is excellent and the bore is excellent with strong rifling. It has safety pins present between all cylinders. The grip retains 85% varnish and 65-70% silver on the trigger guard and back strap. It retains over 60% dark case colors on the frame, hammer and trigger. There is a small amount of corrosion on the left recoil shield and some on one of the chambers. The 6 1/2” barrel is more difficult to find. Many of the percussion pistols were converted to metallic cartridge when sales became slow and demand for cartridge revolvers increased. The Model 1862 Police is considered by many as the ultimate in streamlined design by Colt’s factory.
