New York Production Nelson Lewis Double Barrel Percussion Rifle

This is an for a Nelson Lewis Nineteenth Century c1850s New York Production Double Barrel Combination  double gun Rifle Shotgun.  The black powder rifle barrel has a 44 caliber bore while the shotgun barrel is 16 Gauge.    The barrels retaining a pleasing even brown patina are 28 ½ inches in length with a 1/4 inch concave rib. The shotgun barrel has a pleasing Damascus pattern. There is no rust showing on either barrel. It has a dovetailed German silver blade front sight and dovetail  rear sight, with "N. LEWIS MAKER TROY N.Y." is marked in single line on the rib. Both sides of the Locks have the N. LEWIS MAKER TROY NY markings as seen in the photos. The rifle have breeches having wonderful raised areas around the nipples with that raised section continuing onto barrel. Also seen in the photos are the engraving that was done on the locks, trigger guard and butt plate. It has double set triggers, shadow line cheek piece and curved butt stock. The stock is of beautifully figured walnut with a large, graceful swooping cheek piece. There is an unusual dark area that run through the butt stock which adds a gorgeous touch on both sides. The stock is iron mounted with a patch box, butt plate, toe plate, trigger guard and wedge escutcheons. The various handling marks and short fine hairlines can be seen in the photos.       Nelson Lewis from Troy NY is a well known makers in the mid 1800s of muzzle-loading firearms of various calibers. These gun types included light to and heavy weight target and sporting rifles. Besides single  barrel Lewis also specialized  in double barrel rifle and combination guns. The condition is very fine with a mixed light patina on the barrels and locks. The  Stock is also very fine with no apparent cracks or damage other than a few handling marks which adds to the vintage character. It is mechanically is excellent and the bore are excellent. The ram rod appears old but I have no idea whether it is original or not.  It is an antique and does not require any special licenses for transfer. The cost of shipping and insurance is $49.
