Description:
This prototype Winchester was built post 1964 and is serial # EP-1. This piece was either intended to be a new style of model 70 or a new model. The primary purpose was to build a detachable clip and compete with Remington and other makers and with a lesser priced rifle than the standard Model 70. A 22" barrel in .243 cal, no markings other than the Winchester proof on the barrel and receiver, steel floor plate and alloy triggerguard. We understand that only about six of these pieces were built. This being serial #1. LeRoy Merz offered EXP-3 in one of his catalogues a number of years ago. This piece comes with a slightly battered cased lined with Winchester plaid. Condition excellent with normal testing marks on the wood. A piece for the Winchester or serial # 1 collector. Due to the rarity, it may be possible to have this rifle qualify for C&R. FFL
