Description:
#2479, William Evans (From Purdey's) 4 Pall Mall Place, St. James's, London: William Evans 12 Bore Made in 1892 & now a 2 Barrel Set for shot, ball or conical bullet, Original Damascus Barrels & now Nitro Proved and a Modern set of Paradox barrels, Rebounding Hammer Jones Underlever, Original 30" Damascus barrels at .753 .023 & .027" (Mod. & Imp.Mod.), 2 3/4" chambers, Wall thickness on the right at .031" & .032" on the left; London proved in 1994 at 19mm bores (.753), 70mm chambers & 850 BAR with the proper reproof marks; Then Kirk Merrington from England and now in Kerrville, Texas added a modern set of 28" Steel Paradox barrels with excellent accuracy, 1/4 rib with a fold up peep sight, Front ramp, .734 bores, 2 3/4" chambers, All the loading data goes with it and it flat shoots; Splinter snap forend, Open pistol grip stock at 15 x 1 1/2 x 2 3/8" over a 1 3/16" leather pad that is removable with plugs, 7 lbs. 8 oz. with the original Damascus barrels, 7 lbs. 2 oz. with the steel Paradox barrels, 35% coverage of period scroll engraving with each lock marked "William Evans From Purdeys", The bores on the nitro proved Damascus barrels are excellent with great wall thickness, The Paradox barrels as new, No case colors remain, The buttstock & forend remains very sound in every respect, Both barrels are very tight as is typical with a Jones underlever, This piece was totally refinished in England about 20 years ago when it went to the London proof house and then came to these shores. This gun is ready to go with both sets of barrels as they have a lot of barrel life left for game bird shooting, wild pigs and take a buck with a gun that is a lot more fun than a modern piece. Check out the target, it will shoot and all the data goes with it. The target in the photos was done with a Holland type Paradox bullet, all components can be had from Ballistic Products or Midway using Unique powder and Federal paper hulls, the bullet sizer goes with the sale. The piece is cased in a modern canvas trunk with a full complement of cleaning gear. /////////////////////////// Mr. William Evans worked at both Purdey and Holland & Holland and started at 91a Buckingham Palace Road in 1883 and the firm was Gunmakers to H. R. H. Duke of Connaught. On February 23rd, 1944, just before 10:45pm, a wartime bomb killing 8 civilians and wounding more than 50 others hit Pall Mall. The company's premises at No 63 were badly damaged and, as a result, the company was forced to move around the corner to 67A St.James's Street where it has remained ever since and still operates to this day as one of the few independent Gunmakers left in the U.K. Check out their great at williamevans
