Description:
This pre-WWII Belgian shotgun, serial number 385, is an ideal gun for upland game hunters for whom the hunting experience in mostly about being in the field with their dogs. Whether this best quality gun is a guild gun or a custom shotgun built for a noble or wealthy patron is lost to history. But what is not lost is the exceptional quality of the craftsmanship at every level. Most striking are the deeply engraved hunting scenes, but the old world craftsmanship is also evident in the barrels, the checkering, and the finely milled hand fitted mechanical parts. This gun has as 28” fluid steel barrels choked Improved Cylinder (.009) and Modified (.019). The matting and engraving on the outside of the barrels is deep and crisp. The bores are bright. The wall thickness (top/side/bottom) for the right barrel at 9” from muzzle is .038/.038/.040 and at the middle of the barrel is .040/.040/.040; the left barrel is .040/.042/.042 and .045/.045/.042, respectively. It has 3” chambers, and the bores 9” from the breach are .721/.725 respectively. The gun locks up tight and on face; the top lever returns to the right of center. The weight is 6 lb 11 oz. The drop at the comb is 1-7/8” and at the heel 2-3/8”. Length of pull from the front trigger to the end of the one-inch recoil pad is 13-3/4”. The stock is cast off. The barrels were recently hand sanded to base metal and re-blued using the Belgian rust blue process. All serial numbers match. The seller will ship this gun in a hard case. The inspection period is 7 days from receipt by buyer. Also, it carries a 30-day warrantee, during which the seller will have any mechanical problems repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost. Seller has fired this shotgun using standard factory 2-3/4” target loads. However, for any vintage shotgun it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by a professional gunsmith before firing.
