SPRINGFIELD KRAG U.S. MODEL 1896 .30-40 CAL. CARBINE DATED 1895. 26,xxx serial range original issue Model 1896 Carbine ( not a cut down rifle) with Springfield Arsenal upgrades of 1900 including a new stock, hand guard and rear Carbine sight. Many in this serial range of upgrades were re-issued to the 2nd United States Cavalry (shipped from the Arsenal on July 14, 1900). Very good overall with 80-90% plus blue. Stock and hand guard with matching wood. Working order and good bore. Scarce example of the type that saw service in the Philippines during the Insurrection. Old collection provenance.
