This is a great little rifle with what is considered the shortest throw lever action ever made for centerfire cartridges.
The Model 62 was made for 6 years with the first 4,000 having been made without serial numbers; this is one of the first 4,000. This is known because it has a 4-digit serial number. Marlin recalled all those without serial numbers to have a serial number assigned after the passage of the 1964 firearms act that resulted from the JFK assassination. Strangly, the serial number is placed on the barrel.
The .256 Mag. appears to be a good little cartridge that can handle anything upto Whitetail Deer.
This is a shooter's gun and includes a 1.5 - 4 x 32 Bushnell Banner scope. The barrel has original iron sights and the receiver has been drilled and tapped for a rear Aperature sight.
