Description:

REDUCED TO SELL LOW PRICE  $1195

This is a 5th Model 1863-64 Burnside Carbine in .54 cal percussion. About identical to the fourth model but very noticeable guide screw in the center of the right frame that allows smoother operation of the breech as it rides in the corresponding curved groove in the breech block. Widely used during the Civil War, this carbine was issued to Union Cavalry regiments of the 1st Michigan; 3rd Indiana; 5th, 6th, & 7th Ohio; 1st NJ; 3rd WV; 3rd, 14th, & 18th PA; and 2nd, 12th, 14th & 16th Illinois. Matching SN 29542 on frame and breech block. 21" round .54 cal. barrel. Still readable “BURNSIDE RIFLE Co/PROVIDENCE R.I.” on the lockplate. Front blade sight and folding rear sight. Saddle bar and ring on left side. Action tight and functions smoothly; good shootable bore with rifling. Metal surfaces blued, turned to a dark patina. Oil finished walnut stock showing light blemishes and handling marks, no cracks or major repairs. There are signs of inspector’s cartouche on left side, but unreadable. This popular and highly collectable carbine is being sold from a Civil War collection. Postal Money Orders or certified bank check.
