Some finish damage to stock at left side of butt, near comb. Metal refinished since engraving, one spot on barrel appears to have been spot cold blued. Jack Ashurst bought a gun shop in the early years of WWII, in Grangeville, Idaho. In the 1951-1954 editions of Gun Digest, he is listed as a barrel maker, alongside such notables as Parker Ackley. The action is engraved, very much in the style of the pre war German Sporter rifles, which is our guess of where the action came from. The scope mounting holes indicate a much later addition, possibly the same vintage as the barrel and stock. Overall, a very nice custom Mauser, kind of a cross between a classic German Commercial Sporter, and a 1960's sporter, with a Weatherby inspired stock. SOLD |
