Description:

Pair of S&W Revolvers and Holster Belonging To Famous Trick Shooter Joan Ross W/Provenance. Stock #’s MSH274004CSP, MSH 274005CSP. Serial #’s 756xx, 144xxx. One of over a thousand Antique and Modern Collectible firearms, including Military, Sporting, Custom and Tactical guns, as well as Edged Weapons and Militaria we have for sale at Jackson Armory (see our other listings), this is a very special opportunity for a Collector to obtain a set of pistols and holster that belonged to a Female “Wild West Trick Shooter” that used to work with Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, etc. The pistols and holster, which we will describe in a moment, belonged to Western Trick Shooter Joan Ross, and we obtained them from her Son. Ms Ross, indeed, worked with Western Stars like Roy Rogers, and although she does not have the fame of Annie Oakley, if you are “of a certain age,’ like I am, you will recognize her face from the old Cowboy TV Shows and Movies. Multi-Talented, Ms. Ross also worked with Bull Whips. With the set you also get a copy of her promotional advertisement, wherein she describes her skills and shooting tricks, and advises that she will work Shows, Conventions, etc. Ms. Ross’s guns are, in and of themselves, somewhat un-remarkable – they were meant to be seen onstage from a distance, and to that end, both guns are chrome-plated and both have Mexican Silver grips with ‘JR” initials. The guns are a Smith & Wesson 6” barreled .38 Revolver, and a 6 3/8” Smith & Wesson revolver chambered for .32-20. The guns have been chromed over existing freckling, they have fair bores, and the grips look great, but are ill-fitting on the bottom. The guns come with a tooled white leather 2-gun holster with “J” and “R” respectively, on the holsters and a silver-plated buckle with “JOAN” on it. The holster is in excellent condition, rating 90%+, the guns both rate about 80-85%. It is quite rare, nowadays, to see any firearms with a Show Business provenance for sale, and when you do, it is mostly the Houses that have them, and at ridiculous prices! We were fortunate in convincing Ms. Ross’s Son that we would find a Museum or Collector that will really appreciate and cherish these unique pistols and holster from a unique Show Business Performer, and we hope that Collector is you!
