About Us: When calling ask for the Gun Library

Description:
PHOTOGRAPHS: There are a total of 20 photographs for the shotgun, however Guns International only allows 8, but if you will go to Cabela's gun library you will be able to view all 20 photographs. This gorgeous Midas Grade Lightning Superposed was manufactured in 1961 (S# 84XXX) and is signed by two of Brownings most noteworthy engravers, J Baerten and L Vrancken (see close up photos of the receiver sides). At the time the shotgun was manufactured, Louis Vrancken was the head of the engraving department, along with Andre Watrin. The shotgun includes a letter from Browning Historian, Glen H. Jensen, dated 2012 (See Photo). Please note: This Midas Grade is a "non-salt" era Browning! Salt era Brownings were manufactured from 1966 to 1971.According to the Browning letter the shotgun was sold in 1961 with two barrels, a 26 inch 12 gauge, choked improved cylinder and modified, and a 26 inch 20 gauge barrel, also choked improved cylinder and modified. Both are serialized to the receiver and both are numbered, S 1 for the 12 gauge and S 2 for the 20 gauge. At some point in the shotguns life it was shipped back to Browning for a third barrel, a 28" 12 gauge, choked skeet & skeet, it is also serialized to the receiver and is numbered S 3. The chokes have been opened up on the original two barrels. The 26" 12 gauge is now stamped as skeet *(.008) & i.c. *(.012), and the 26" 20 gauge is stamped as skeet *(.003) & skeet *(.005). The third barrel remains the same as originally ordered from the factory, skeet *(.007) & skeet *(.003). There is a gold oval name plate inlayed in the belly of the butt-stock with the initials E.H.W., which is noted in the Browning letter. *Chokes measured at time of this internet ad.CONDITION: The shotgun was used for skeet shooting and possibly some upland gunning. It remains in good to very good condition and looks very nice and presents very well. However, after the initial wow factor begins to wane, the imperfections start to appear, that is if one looks closely! The bluing is quite nice overall but there are some issues. Each barrel set has some blue-wear just in front of the forearm on the bottom barrel. And the bluing has some light wear on the trigger guard, and considerably more wear on the long tang of the pistol grip. As one turns to the beautiful wood and begins to admire the light and dark contrasting figure, he will notice how glossy the original lacquer finish looks, but soon after, he will begin to notice the aged checking in the lacquer. Unfortunately a common ailment of many old Brownings. To see the lacquer cracks, please see the closeup photos of the receiver and the angle shot of the butt-stock. As for the wood and more about the lacquer finish, there are scratches, nicks and small gouges here and there in each. Most are very small, some are average size and a couple are a bit larger. All are fairly shallow and should come out fairly easily when the wood is refinished.
