#4463, Alex'r Henry, Edinburgh and London, Patent No. 3454, Maker to Their Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and Duke of Edinburgh: A Best 500 3" Black Powder Express Double Rifle Made in 1878 with a Jones Action Underlever Back-Action with Non-Rebounding Hammers, It is with 28" damascus barrels with Henry's patent rifling, London proved; Full length rib with 1 standing & 2 folding express sights that are platinum lined, Non-Rebounding locks, Hammer safeties, Percussion style fences, Deeley & Edge forend release, Steel engraved trapdoor grip cap, Shadowline cheekpiece, Sling eyes, 14 1/4" LOP over a checkered butt with engraved steel heel & toe plates, 8 lbs. 8 oz., 85% coverage of well-cut period scroll engraving including the hammers, top strap, lever, trigger guard, forend and grip cap, It has 95% barrel browning, 20% original case colors, No pits on the breech face around the striker holes, The wood is extremely solid in every respect and ready for extended shooting, The checkering remains at 95%, The wood with very nice color and contrast, The bores and chambers are absolute excellent to near excellent plus, The rifling is sharp the entire way from throat to muzzle and not a pit to be had, All the screws are in excellent shape and nearly everyone lays north & south, The inside of the forend retains 95% bright and vivid case colors, The gun is cased in the original brass cornered oak & leather trunk with a modern and new lining inside. This very rifle shoots well with a 365 grain cast bullet ahead of 53.5 grains of IMR 4198 at 1800 fps. The target shows a 6-shot group at 50 yards at 2 5/8". This is a good looking and extremely solid rifle in every respect from metal to wood with excellent bores. This classic double is first rate quality, style, grace, workmanship, handling and Alexander Henry romance from a great period at the pinnacle of sporting guns in the last years of the 19th century.
