Description:
Early Springfield 30-06 sporter by an early unknowm maker referred to by Michael Petrov as "S-Man" Early Springfield Armory reciever with serrated trigger and modified top tang. Barrel is 24" with good but not excellent bore. First variation Lyman 48 reciever peep sight with 160' long slide. Bolt knob concaved on top and checkered on the bottom. Stocked in exhibition American Walnut with pancake cheekpiece and schnabel forend tip. LOP IS 13 5/8" to a checkered steel buttplate. There are approximateley 6 pieces accounted for and attributed to this maker. Several of these feature Rudolph Kornbrath engraving. This piece with fairly extensive Kornbrath game scene engraving. Moose on barrel breech, sow bear and cubs with gold inlayed monogram on floorplate, and bull elk on trigger guard. The mystery remains. Hopefully someday the identity of "S-Man" will be discovered. Classic Americana.
