Description:
Serial #1115, .50-70, 35 1/2? barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is one of 1,600 rifles that were converted by Springfield Armory from the original .50-60-450 Joslyn RF to .50-70 CF. The barrel and bands retain their original armory bright finish while the breech block retains 95-97% of the original dark oil-quenched finish. Nice original color case-hardening is still present on the hammer and the 1864 dated lock while the dark walnut stock retains nearly all of the original military oil finish. There are numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes, mainly on the left side opposite the lock, and on the belly of the butt. This is the finest example of a Joslyn we have yet seen and it would undoubtedly make a stellar addition to any collection. Antique
