Description: Griffin & Howe Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1922 Converted to 22 Hornet. Very Rare and Unique Example of this type of rifle that was the end result of the collaboration of Townsend Whelen and Armory personel. The rifle remains in overall excellent condition. The bore is in, as new condition. Checkering, which is seldom seen on this type of rifle is sharp and crisp. Springfield Research letter on this rifle states that it was shipped to Griffin & Howe in March of 1934 as a special sale and specifies the caliber only as "22". Obviously the conversion was done by Griffin and Howe. The checkering pattern is typical of their usual pattern. The barrel caliber has not been changed from "22 Long Rifle Only"; which is occasionally encountered in Pre-War custom rifles. Evidently the owner had to specify everything. More research on this rifle could reveal many more interesting facts about this already unique rifle.
