Description:
***   REDUCED   ***   Own the gun John Robertson designed and built! This beautiful and rare Boss Round Body Action was made in 1896-97 and shows the impact of John Robertson’s acquisition of the company four years earlier. First the Round Body Action itself was a Robertson innovation but the gun also has the Boss single trigger which Robertson patented in 1894. The sides and bottom of the frame all show the new engraving pattern especially developed by Sumner for Boss at Robertson’s behest. This rare Boss is in excellent mechanical condition. The Sumner engraving is beautifully executed as you would expect and crisp like the day it left the workshop. Metal condition and wood to metal fit are excellent. Serial number is 4407 and the gun weighs 6lb 14oz. *** The 28” barrels were invisibly sleeved by Westley Richards whose initials are stamped in script on the barrel flats and were nitro proofed sometime after 1989. Chambered for 2-1/2” cartridges the barrels are topped by the original game style rib marked “Boss & Co. 73 St James’s Street London”. The right barrel has a bore diameter of 0.732 with a constriction of 0.008 for an Improved Cylinder choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.024. The left barrel has a bore diameter of 0.733 with a constriction of 0.016 for a Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028. *** The gun is stocked in a nicely figured piece of English walnut with crisp checkering. There are some handling marks on the buttstock from normal usage. Stock dimensions are 14-5/8” over a 1” leather pad by 1-1/2” by 2-3/8”. Note: Because Boss places their single triggers where the rear trigger of a double trigger configuration would normally be the Length of Pull is equivalent to 15-1/8". Plenty of room for adjustment. The stock is of neutral cast and could be easily bent for the right hand or left hand shot. *** It is estimated that only 287 Round Body Action frames were made by Boss since their introduction in 1893 making this a very desirable gun for the shooter or collector. Comes cased in a vintage leather case with Boss label and accessories. Perfect for game or clays. Own the gun John Robertson designed and built. Priced to sell. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to own a classic Boss at a great price. Life is short. Write the check. I give a three day non-firing inspection and will only accept returns if the gun is not as described.
