All original and complete with matching numbers in the c10,xxx range. Very good to fine overall with minor blue mixed with patina on the barrel. Greyish case hardening on lock plate and receiver. Very sharp markings with perfect “Sharps” and “Lawrence” patent dates on the lock plate. Extra nice “SHARPS RIFLE/MANUFG CO./HARTFORD, CONN” address on barrel. Government Ordnance sub-inspector’s stamp “H” at the left breech. “New Model 1863”stamping very clear. Working order and good bore with sharp rifling. Excellent wood with the original finish. Old owner stamp “S.D. Houser” in block letters on both sides of the butt stock and a minor sliver of wood missing at the juncture of upper tang and frame. Very close in number to a group of Sharp’s carbines documented as belonging to Companies G and I of the 1st Maryland U.S. Cavalry Volunteers(see Coates & McAulay pp. 68-69).
