#3238 Percussion Breach Loading Proto Type Rifle Engraved RARE
This is a custom Proto Type breach loading 44 caliber engraved percussion rifle. The barrel is 1” flat to flat wide and over 29.5” long. The receiver, lock, hammer and crescent butt plate are all engraved. The bore would be very good bright and shinny except for a very small amount of fine corrosion. It has very strong rifling. The lever drops down and you pull it to the right and the breach opens for loading a paper cartridge. The wood is solid with out any cracks or damage. This is one of the most unique rifles with out a maker name. The barrel is marked CAST STEEL. The action is of fine scroll engraving. It has a scroll pattern with a shield on the rear top tang. The lock has a hunter scene with his dog. The nickel silver butt plate has a scroll pattern on the top and bottom. This is a very spectacular and unique rifle, the first one like it I have ever encountered. It weighs over 10 pounds and is solid and tight, mechanically excellent condition. There is no rust or pitting on the metal surfaces. It retains about 65% fading blue to plum color on the barrel and lever and the action is in the white.
