Description:
#3460 Burnside Second Model Civil War Carbine 50% RARE
This is a Rare Second Model Burnside Carbine with a 21” round barrel and is 54 caliber breach loading percussion. The mechanical function is very good and tight. The bore would be very good with strong rifling except for fine corrosion. It should clean up even nicer. It retains about 50%+ finish and dark case colors. The wood was lightly sanded but it still has an Inspector’s Cartouche on the left wrist. This is serial number 954 and the second model started at #250 to #2250. This carbine was issued to the First Rhode Island Infantry who were in the opening attack at First Bull Run, July 21, 1861. Other Cavalry Units issued to were 1st Maine, 1st New Jersey, 1st Pennsylvania, 1st and 2nd Indiana, 1st and 2nd Indiana, 1st and 2nd Rhode Island and 1st U.S. The Second Model’s are very hard to come by, kind of like hens teeth.
