The contract was completed in October of 1877 and no record that any more guns were converted by them. This is an original Sharps model 1859 and still has the carbine plug in the wood on the left side that once was a saddle ring carbine. The barrel has no marks ( correct per Sharps book by Sellers) and is a round 30" barrel. Receiver has the 1853 date. Rear sight is typical Sharps ladder style. Caliber 45-70 with really nice strong bore. Gun is basically gun metal gray. Action works like new. Wood is excellent but shows use. Overall weight of rifle is 8 pounds so it is a nice sporting rifle in what is often referred to as a Business rifle with round barrel. A true old west Sharps in excellent all original condition. An early Sharps that saw extensive use during the Civil War and then recycled to open the West.
