Description:
Serial #7090, .44 RF, 24" octagon barrel with a very good bore that has light freckling within the grooves and some minor pitting at the breech. This first type carbine has an overall plum-brown patina with gray fading on the edges and projections. The barrel markings are still faintly legible on the top flat at the breech and some traces of original blue remain on the rear sight leaf. The barrel lock-up is still fairly tight with just a barely perceptible amount of lateral play and the mechanism itself is fully functional. The walnut buttstock is in very good shape with numerous small handling marks and blemishes throughout under an added varnish. There are some sizable nicks in the wood along the belly and the stock itself is slightly loose. These are fairly rare guns (total production of the military carbine was about 4,500) and this example is in very good plus-near fine condition. Antique
