Description: Parker GH 16 Gauge SxS Shotgun PARKER SPECIAL STEEL BARRELS, 1 of 607 MADE General Specs: Parker, Year 1925, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 10oz, Side by Side Serial Number: 215440 The Parker Grade 2, or GH Grade, is the first in the Parker line up with the more interesting "game scene" engraving. Most are aware that the VH had only zig-zag border engraving and the PH some light scroll work. With the GH we have considerable more fine scroll and oval vignettes on each side and the bottom with 2 birds in each vignette. The wood is also nicer on the GH grade as is the checkering. For the gentleman that wants a representative example of a Parker bird gun he can take afield and do so affordably, the GH grade is a great start. Most upland hunters prefer a smaller gauge than the 12, and the 16 is the one that "carries like a 20 and hits like a 12", being lighter and handier than the big 12 bores. From an investment standpoint, they made more than 10 times more 12's than 16's, with only 607 Parker GH guns produced with Parker Special Steel barrels. Beware that most GH guns you see are damascus guns which hold a much different value in the market place. This gun, serial number 215440 made in 1925, is one of about 335 made with 28" steel barrels and remains in factory original configuration with all original parts numbered to the gun. The engraving, screws, checkering, and wood are in excellent condition and the gun has not been restored in anyway except the barrels have been reblued. The screws appear to be unturned. This is one of those untouched guns in nice condition that can be had at an affordable price, and of course with the rarity and desirability, the value will continue to increase as you enjoy its use.
