Description:
This Martini-Henry bayonet measures 23 3/4? overall with an 18 3/8? straight, spear-point blade having 1/2 length, unstopped single fullers. The steel has an overall dark pewter gray patina with mottled dark freckling throughout, heaviest within the fullers. The ricasso is marked with ?(crown)/VR/88? on the reverse and ?X/(broad arrow)/WD? on the obverse. The hilt has a single forward swept quillon with disk finial, large muzzle-ring, lightly worn checkered leather grip and bird's head pommel with functional latch stud. The bayonet comes with a worn but intact leather scabbard that has freckled gray metal throat and chape furniture and only some very minor crazing. This is a fine example of a handsome Victorian era British bayonet and woould make a great addition to a collection or Martini-Henry rifle
