Description:
This LC Smith 12 gauge Grade 2E shotgun, serial number 8143, was manufactured in 1902.  It has crisp engraving and beautiful wood.  The 30” fluid steel barrels, which are flawless, are choked Modified (.020) and Full (.035).  It has 2-3/4” chambers, and the bores are bright.  The wall thickness (top/side/bottom) for the right barrel at 9” from muzzle is .030/.030/.029 and at the middle of the barrel is .033/.029/.025; the left barrel is .032/.040/.035 and .032/.040/.032, respectively.  Bores 9” from the breach are .731/.731 respectively, and the outside muzzle diameter is .820/.820.  The gun locks up tight and is on face.  Ejectors function properly.  All serial numbers match.

The gun weighs 8 lbs 2 oz.  The drop at the comb is 1-1/2” and at the heel is 2-1/2”.  Length of pull from the front trigger to the end of the butt pad, a period correct replacement, is 13-1/2”.  The heel is cast off 1/8” for the right handed shooter.  As is clear in the pictures, the engraving on the receiver is well preserved and the checkering is of fine quality.  At some point in its history this gun was professionally restocked; given the quality of the wood, fine checkering, and type of finish most likely by the Reinhart Fajen Company.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call seller at 703-625-4830.

The inspection period is 7 days from receipt by buyer.  Seller has fired this shotgun using standard factory shells with both target and game loads. However, as for any vintage shotgun, and especially for a gun such as this that is 112 years old, it is recommended that new owner have it inspected by a professional gunsmith before firing.  The gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which the seller will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and return shipping cost.
