Description:
NSN, .60 Caliber, 28" octagonal Brunswick rifled barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is a very handsome rifle that has mellow browned striping along the barrel with "EDINBURGH" on the top flat at the breech. The breech has some light vise marks on the right side and some minor impact marks on the nipple bolster. The "MORTIMER" marked lockplate and hammer are nicely engraved with loose floral scroll with scallop shell and scroll motifs on the top tang. The lock is fully functional but with a slight grinding of the sear. The half-length walnut stock has an old added varnish over scattered minor handling marks and bruises and is fastened by a single wedge with plain oval escutcheons. There is an ornately engraved, German silver triggerguard with triple-lobed finial and a matching pattern on the German silver buttplate. The checkering is still quite crisp and deep with very little flattening of the points and there are s few negligible chips missing from the borders of the wood inletting. The large patchbox is engraved: "COUNTY ARCHERY AND RIFLE CLUB/FOR THE WEST OF SCOTLAND" in an oval. The gun comes with its original brass-tipped wooden ramrod held by two thimbles (one with sling eyelet) and a ridged tail-pipe. This is a very handsome, Brunswick rifled gun in very good-near fine condition. Antique
