Description:
AMERICAN FLINTLOCK FOWLER

American Flintlock Fowler, with plain walnut full length stock 69” 95ft, 9 inches) overall and 54”inch
.70 calibers round smoothbore barrel with proof marks (Probably British). Hardware is Brass with an engraved pineapple finial in front of the trigger guard and other engraving on lock is tulips; (maybe Dutch) early goose neck hammer & lock. Stock of Black Walnut, has hairline cracks Behind & Lock. Brass escutcheon on stock wrist, Oak ramrod. The gun exhibits very early design and workmanships and a nice clean look and lines. Circa 1750.The Barrels on very early Fowlers were extra long because the powder used at the time burned slower than that available later. Most of these long barrels were cut down; it is very usual to find one with the original long barrel. A very rare & very old gun.(13-89)
