Description:
Browning Superposed Lightning 20 Gauge Over & Under Shotgun

GRADE 1, ENGLISH STOCK, 99%

General Specs: Browning, Year 1972, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 3oz, O/U
Serial Number: 2166V72

This is a nice POST SALT WOOD Superposed 20ga Lightning Grade 1 sporting 28" barrels field choked IC/M from the factory and Field style forearm...a most desirable configuration for the Superposed.  Serial number 2166V72 is a gun produced late in the year of 1973, as shown on page 328 of Ned Schwing's seminal book, "THE BROWNING SUPERPOSED".  These guns have a history of  being assembled a year or more after the serial number on the frame would indicate.  The gun was produced well after they burned all of the salt wood in 1972, as also stated in Schwing's book, page 246.   A bird hunter's dream gun, this vintage Superposed is gorgeous with 99% factory original blue on the receiver and barrels, clear sharp lettering and engraving, and little use for its years.  The butt stock has been expertly replaced with a nicely finished straight stock, checkered to perfection at 24 lines per inch, a nice mullered border, perfect wood to metal fit, and nice shootable dimensions (there are a few minor handling marks on the right side of the butt stock [see photos] that can be repaired to perfection for $225).  What a delightful bird gun weighing just 6lbs. 3oz. balanced 1/4" ahead of the hinge pin and you can tell how the gun got its name by the way it comes to your shoulder.  Most classic uplanders will love the feel of this slender English style grip in hand and how quick the gun handles.  Someone made a good choice to replace the butt stock, in my opinion, and a true artist to execute the job.  The gun feels like a SUPERLIGHT in hand but for a lot less money.  A nice collectible, shootable investment quality shotgun for the lover of the O/U.
