This Colt Model 1911, manufactured in 1918, has just been restored to its original condition to include the black army finish.
Restoration included a full metal polish, remarking of all the original stamping and roll marks, black army finish, and new grips.
The "black army" finish was the term used to refer to the dark appearance of the charcoal blue finish that Colt used on pistols made during and immediately after WWI (mid-1917 to mid-1918). This was due to Colt eliminating the final polishing step to increase production.
