Description:
NSN, .28 caliber, 2 1/2” six-shot barrel cluster with good freckled bores. This is a rare gun that, unusually for the time, has no engraving or other adornments but rather has a plain browned iron finish that has turned mootled plum-brown and gray over time with some spots of pinprick pitting around the edges of the nipple shield and on the breech end of the barrels. The fragile yet intact trigger and guard have a matching mottled patina as does the bar hammer which is marked “W.W. MARSTON” along the top, “NEW YORK” on the right side, and “PATENTED 1849” on the left. The bag-shaped walnut grips are in fine shape and have some light handling marks and blemishes in the lightly flaked varnish finish. The mechanism is slightly loose but is fully functional nevertheless and that makes this an even more unusual example of a rather rare American pepperbox.
